To create an anti-racist housing system, we need full system changes — in particular around homeownership and wealth generation — and that requires us to commit to the long game, and take action with policy and practice that is both anti-racist and thoughtful.
It is shown that neighborhoods that were redlined during the 1930s are to this day some of the most segregated and underserved communities in our country.
It is not enough for us to rely upon public policy to reverse systemic racism and inherent bias in our housing system.
