Boston, MA (July 30, 2025) – Framework, a leader in online homeownership education, is proud to announce the expansion of its partnership with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity (Twin Cities Habitat) to launch a new custom online course: Homeowners Associations 101. Designed specifically for Twin Cities Habitat homebuyers, this course offers clear, accessible information to help new homeowners understand what it means to live in a homeowner association (HOA) community.
HOAs are becoming increasingly common in Minnesota. In fact, 82% of new homes in the state are built into HOAs, and nearly 1.6 million Minnesotans, more than a quarter of the population, live in one of over 7,950 community associations. These homeowners collectively contribute an estimated $31 billion annually to maintaining their communities, according to the Community Associations Institute.
“Living in an HOA can come with a learning curve, especially for first-time homebuyers,” said Cassandra Kushnir, Director of Product at Framework. “This course breaks down the basics from fees and maintenance responsibilities to governance and homeowner rights, so families feel confident and prepared.”
At Twin Cities Habitat, nearly 300 homes developed by the organization are located within HOAs across around 60 unique communities. While every HOA is different, one common theme is around the questions and concerns about HOAs and how it often can take more time to address because of the complexity and uniqueness of each association’s structure and rules.
That’s why Twin Cities Habitat and Framework teamed up to create a solution that’s proactive, educational, and supportive. The course will cover topics including governing documents, fees, fines and finance, as well as tips for HOA living, among others.
